New York is one of the original 13 states of the U.S.  With a land area of about 48,000 square miles, it is an upside down triangle of bursting, spectacular, often raw nature.

At the southern tip of this triangle, like some high-fevered Atlas, sits "the greatest town on Earth."  New York City is a Babel of squealing and mewling deal-cutting humanity; a laboratory dish of high culture and low fat yogurt.

To be a New Yorker all you have to do is arrive.  It is simply not possible to be a foreigner, although you'll be spotted fairly quickly as an outsider if you walk slowly, gawk at skyscrapers, or hold a door open.  The city lends itself to quick rules of thumb, easy lessons.  Vertical learning curves turn out to have staircases, if not elevators, attached.  All you need is the energy to absorb and climb.

Welcome!

Should I walk?
